Choosing any type of contractor do work on or around your home is a very important decision. It is a decision that could determine if the project you hiring then to do is a success or a failure. You would not leave your children with a day care worker you know nothing about. You do the research needed and ask the questions that needs to be asked before you leave your children anywhere. This is the type of attitude you should have no matter what type of contractor you are choosing. Choosing the right electrician is no different. Licensed and Insured

It doesn’t matter what type of contract electrical work you have done on your property, Singapore authority requires the work to be done by licensed and insured contractors. All electrical work must be undertaken or carried out by a licensed electrical worker. Such electrical work includes new wiring, rewiring and extensions which have to be tested before the supply is turned on. When consumer needs any electrical work to be done at his premises, he is advised to check that the person whom he intends to engage to undertake or perform the electrical work has a valid electrical worker licence issued by the Authority. If an electrician is licensed, he has taken the classes and test that is required to obtain a Singapore approved EMA license. He will also have to go back at least once a year if not twice a year to be retested to see if hos training is where it needs to be according to EMA. He is also required to have a certain amount of liability insurance if for some reason the work that he does causes damage to your property. He is also required to insure his workers as well so they cannot make you liable for any injuries that may occur while they are working on your property.

If the household job is simple where it only requires a change in light fittings or light bulbs replacement, it is alright to engage an experienced electrician to do the job in Singapore.


You want to make sure that the electrician you are using is reputable. There are a couple of ways to check on the reputation of an electrician. One of the simplest but most effective is by word of mouth. Ask the people in your area or community about the electrician. Most of the time if there is something that is not right about a certain contractor word goes out pretty quickly. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau in your area to see if they have anything to report on the individual. Another way to check on a particular electrician is to ask the contractors in your area. Most of the time contractors will usually have their own subcontractors they use such as electricians and plumbers throughout the entire project.

Make sure that you meet the electrician personally to determine if he would be a good choice to do the work you are looking to do. Most of the time when you meet a person face to face you can see the what kind of personality and attitude a person will have. You want to make sure that he is willing to work with you add give you what you ask for. There may be sometimes when the contractor may have a better idea of what will work in certain situations. You want to make sure the chosen electrician is not too pushy trying to sell you some services that are not needed. You can generally get the feel you need from the contactor by meeting with him personally.
