Out with the Old, In with the New: Say Goodbye to these 6 Things from Your Wardrobe Today

Do you look in your closet and declare you have nothing to wear even though hanger after hanger of skirts, blouses, jeans, dresses and more all stare back at you? Do you have 20 handbags that you never use? Or shoes that occupy a huge space in the cupboard? Here’s how to know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em when it comes to purging your closet of ancient items that need to go.

1. Holey socks and undergarments

Newsflash: sexy lingerie is no longer sexy if it has holes in it. And while plain ordinary undergarments might not look so hot, they are decidedly less so when they have holes or stains. Ditto for socks. Out they go!

2. Old bags collecting dust

Handbags can be timeless when chosen properly. But the ones that follow the big NOW trends will be out of style faster than you can fill it with lipstick and emergency tampons. If you’re trendy-then bag has just been sitting on your shelf, collecting dust and getting no use, get rid of it.

3. Anything stained

Sometimes, we get lucky and our stain stick and quick-thinking laundry care can keep our favourite clothes from looking like they ever underwent an unfortunate spill. Other times, there is nothing we can do to save these garments. If you have anything with stains that won’t go even if you’ve tried everything to remove it or your whites can no longer be called “white” by true definition, it’s time to part ways.

4. Too-well-worn sweaters

Take a look at all your sweaters and be honest…do they still look new? You can get a lot of wear out of sweaters, but eventually the tear side of things is going to show itself. If it looks frayed, has snags, fuzzies or holes that you can’t mend without it looking even worse, show it the door.

5. Ill-fitting or unfashionable jeans

Jeans are a staple in everyone’s closet, and likely you have more than one pair (probably more like 12 or more) But if they’re just sitting there, then there’s no sense in using them. If they don’t fit anymore (and won’t for the foreseeable future), are torn in places they shouldn’t be or feature a fashion trend so far back in time that old people stop you when you wear them and tell you how much those jeans remind them of being at Woodstock, then you might just want send them packing.

6. Shoes that haven’t even walked a mile

We all do it. We buy a stunning pair of heels and we wear them maybe once for an hour before we wince in pain and hurry home to change them. There’s no sense in keeping shoes that you are never going to wear. That goes for sneakers, sandals, boots and all your other shoes too. If you haven’t worn them in a year, you’re not going to. Find them a loving home instead.
